Circular Paver Patio & Elevated Path — Port Royal, SC

Port Royal, SCJune 2026 4 min read

Kristen and Alex had a front yard they actively avoided — low, shaded, and prone to flooding in heavy Lowcountry rain. We turned it into a raised paver path and a circular patio under the oaks: a fire-pit gathering spot in the cooler months and a shaded hangout in the warm ones. It is now the part of their property they seek out every single day.

The Problem

Kristen and Alex were not using their front yard at all. It sat low under a canopy of mature trees, and during heavy rains it would flood — turning the most prominent part of their property into a space they walked past rather than into. Beautiful oaks overhead, and no way to enjoy them.

Our Solution

The fix started below the surface. We built an elevated paver path and a circular patio set up out of the wet, with a base graded and compacted to move water through and away instead of letting it pool. That elevation is what makes the space usable year-round in a yard that used to flood.

On top, we laid a herringbone field — the most interlock-stable paver pattern — and wrapped the full circle in a contrasting soldier-course border that frames the patio and makes it read as an intentional, finished room. A straight banded path ties the circle back to the house, so the whole yard finally connects.

The Result

A circular patio that works as a fire-pit gathering spot through the cooler months and a shaded hangout when it warms up — built to shrug off the rain that used to make the yard unusable. The trees that were always the best feature of the property are now something the family sits under instead of avoiding.

It feels like our own little park. My bird call app (Merlin) recorded 22 different birds out there yesterday morning. So thank you again for helping us reimagine the space. It’s become a place we seek out every day. In the past, we tried to avoid it.
